What Is an SR22 And Why Do I Need It?

What is an SR-22?

Thank you for asking Allan.
An sr-22 is a required proof of financial responsibility. It is required by the state for individuals convicted of traffic violations. It i a document that is being filed by the insurance providers that shows that a car insurance liability for an individual is in effect . It is required to an individual who got involved in an accident or was convicted of a traffic offense and was unable to show proof of insurance or financial responsibility. This varies in different state though. Some requirements may apply on one state but not in another state. If for instance you have an sr-22 and then you moved to another state that does not require an sr-22 like Delaware, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Kentucky, you will still need to continue the sr-22 requirement where you commited the offense even though you no longer reside there. You should have the minimum liability inusrance on your policy in the new state that is required by the law in your former state.
Some companies does not offer out of state sr-filings for policies in New York and North Carolina and theses states don’t require sr-22 filings.
You may check with your current insurance company to give you more information about getting an sr-22 if you are required to have one. You can only get an sr-22 form from the insurance providers that is filed with the state to issue sr-22.
Goodluck!
