Reader question:

I tried to read my SR 22 auto insurance policy, but I don’t get what it’s all about. Help!

I see your frustration, Abel.

It’s extremely important that you read your SR 22 auto insurance policy, but even more important that you actually understand it. Every year, most of the SR 22 auto insurance claims that are denied are denied because the policy holder didn’t realize that she either wasn’t covered for what she thought she was under her SR 22 auto insurance policy, or she violated the claims terms in some way.

There are five parts to your SR 22 auto insurance policy, and understanding these parts will make you better able to read it and know what you must when the time comes to file a claim.

  • Decorations.

This is the easiest to understand part of your SR 22 auto insurance policy. It has all of the information about you, such as your car make and model, its VIN, your name, and so on. Make sure that the information on here is correct and matches that on your driver’s license and registration, because if you don’t you could have trouble when you file a claim.

  • Agreement.

Here you will find what you are covered for. Pay attention to this part. This is what your SR 22 auto insurance company owes you when you file a claim. It will detail such things as your liability coverage and any other extra coverage that you have purchased.

  • Exclusions.

This goes with the agreement section and is also very important. This states what you are NOT covered for under your SR 22 auto insurance policy. For example, you might not be covered if someone who often drives your car but is not named on your policy gets into an accident.

  • Conditions.

This has all your important information for when you get into a car accident. It will tell you how to file an SR 22 auto insurance claim, as well as what you may do if you and the company cannot resolve the claim.

  • Definitions.

It might be best to read this part first. It defines the words that are commonly used throughout your SR 22 auto insurance policy.
