Reader’s Question:
Can I purchase an sr-22 without an insurance? What if my insurance provider does not offer an sr-22?
Myles
Thank you for asking Myles.
No insurance company can sell you an sr-22 without an insurance. Sr22 is a form that shows proof that you are carrying the minimum liability coverage required by the law.
The insurance company files and certifies that you have an insurance coverage that the state requires. It is in the form of Sr-22. This cannot be verified by the insurance providers if you do not purchase your insurance policy through them.
If your insurance company does not offer an sr-22, you will need to purchase it from other insurance company that offers it in your area. You may be able to cancel the old policy then if the new policy is already in effect. To avoid lapse in your insurance coverage, you will need to make sure that the new policy is already in effect before canceling the old one.
Basically, if your current insurance company does not offer an sr-22, you will need to cancel that insurance and purchase it from an insurance provider that will file the financial responsibility certificate for you.
Goodluck!
