Reader’s Question:
I do not drive or own a vehicle, why do I still need to have an sr-22? I live in Texas.
Mitch
Good Question, Mitch.
Some motorist are required to carry an sr-22 after being convicted of certain traffic violations especially when you are trying to get the license reinstated. You dont need to purchase an insurance if the state does not require you to purchase one. An sr-22 is needed to reinstate your license whether you are not going to drive or does not own a vehicle, if the state requires you to carry an sr-22, you should purchase one from the insurance company licensed to do business in the state of Texas.
A non owner sr-22 policy is for those who do not own a vehicle and is required to get an sr-22.
To verify if you need to carry an sr-22, it is best to contact the Texas Department of Public Safety to give you more information. You may also check with other Texas agencies that gives you notification that requires you to purchase the financial responsibility form.
Goodluck!
