The sr-22 or the future proof of financial responsibility, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation, should be maintained for a period of two years from the first day of your suspension due to conviction of traffic offenses. If you fail to maintain or show proof of financial responsibility, this may lead to suspension or revocation of your drivers license and vehicle registration.

If you are required to carry an sr-22, you will need your authorized insurance company file the proof of Financial Responsibility certificate to the Office Drivers Services.

After revocation or suspension of your license due to convictions, you will need to show future proof of liability insurance policy and is required to be maintained for a period of two years.

After showing your future proof of insurance, you may only use the vehicle that is under or covered by the sr-22 insurance, otherwise this may result in fines of $1500 or you may go to jail for a year if you violate this restrictions.
