Do I Need To File an SR22 For More Than One Car?

Reader’s Question:

How does an sr-22 works if I own more than one car?

Thank you for asking Len.

Generally, you will need to show proof that all your vehicles that you own are all insured by the required insurance that the law requires. This varies in different states though.

In some sates, if your license gets suspended due to driving without an insurance, the reinstatement of your license will depend upon your filing of the sr-22 that will show proof that you have a valid insurance in all of your vehicles. This filing and coverage is required to be maintained for three years and show proof that all vehicles that you own are all insured. If you do not own a vehicle on the other hand, you will need to purchase a non owner’s policy.

Other states may not require you to carry an sr-22 for all types of the vehicle that you have. You may check with the Department of Motor Vehicle to verify this information in your state. Normally though, it is more likely that you will need all the vehicles that you own be covered by the insurance and the sr-22 filing will need to show proof to this. .

You may contact your insurance company or any agents if you need to know on how to go about filing an sr-22 or on how to obtain a required auto insurance on all of your vehicles.

Goodluck!
