If you are being required by your state to carry an SR22 for a period of three years,then even though you sell your car, you will still need to carry an SR22 auto insurance coverage for three years.

Generally, individuals are required to carry an SR22 for various reasons such as getting citation for driving without car insurance, DUI or DWI, getting too many points in your driving record etc. If your drivers license has been suspended, you may need to file an SR22 through your insurance company to have your license reinstated.

SR22 is a type of certificate that show proof to your state that you have the required minimum liability insurance. Your insurer will file this for you to be submitted to the DMV. If you cancel, terminate or let your car insurance lapse before the time period of carrying an SR22, your insurer will inform the DMV and your license will be suspended.

If you do not have a vehicle, you will be required to get a non owner SR22 instead. This non owner SR22 will permit you drive cars that you do not own.

A non-owners policy usually means that the an individual on the policy does not own a car nor lives in a household with a car. If the family member does not live in your household it might be possible for you to operate their vehicle but you should check with your insurance broker.

Also make certain that your family member’s vehicle is insured and would cover you if there is an accident since when borrowing somebody else’s vehicle, the car owner’s insurance policy is primary to cover damages.

If you had your license reinstated after the period of suspension for your drunk driving conviction was up, then you have to have SR22 insurance for non owner drivers, period. That is the requirement placed on you for having a license, and if you are not insured with a proper SR22 insurance for non owner drivers policy, thren you risk fines and loss of your license again. In order to be safe, you need to be insured.

In most states it wouldn’t matter if your car works or not, even if you didn’t have to file an SR22 insurance for non owner drivers form, called the operator SR22 form. You have to have your car insured even if you don’t own it, so long as you use it. The difference between then and now is that in many states the law can’t tell that you don’t have a car insurance policy until they catch you driving without proof of it, whereas if you are required to have an SR22 insurance for non owner driver policy, then there is a constant communication to the department of motor vehicles over your status as insured or uninsured.

The only way to get out of this would be either to get a waiver for your car or simply sell it. As someone who pays for SR22 insurance for non owner drivers, you are able to take advantage of many of the same discounts that other drivers do. If you ask your car insurance company about discounts, you can find out which ones you qualify for. Otherwise, think about doing the following things.

• Raise your deductible.

Like comprehensive and collision coverage, liability insurance, which is the only type of insurance coverage you can get with a SR22 insurance for non owner driver policy, you must pay a deductible before damages can be paid. However, if you have a higher deductible, then you will be able to pay a lower premium because you are assuming more risk. This is especially important when you are already a high risk SR22 driver.

Some people find it difficult to come up with the money for higher deductibles. I have a one thousand deductible, and I’ve had it for two years and haven’t had to pay it out yet. In the meantime, I have saved up much more than that by simply saving the money that I otherwise would have paid towards my car insurance premium. SR22 insurance is required when you have received a conviction for drunk driving or have had your driver’s license suspended for some other reason. If you intend to have your driver’s license reinstated before three years is out, you will need to have a SR22 insurance form filed. However, for some people, it is necessary for them to reinstate their license even though they do not own a car. In these cases, they must buy non owner SR22.

Non owner SR22 car insurance is pretty limited. While with other types of insurance you may add all of the coverage you want, with non owner SR22 car insurance you are only able to purchase your state’s liability limit. This can leave you very unprotected, especially if you would like some kind of medical coverage. However, if the person whose car you are driving with your non owner SR22 policy has coverage such as medical payment coverage, collision coverage, and so on, then that will cover the car even if you are driving it.

You cannot get non owner SR22 as a catch all policy, as it only covers certain cars. It doesn’t cover a car that you own, for example. It doesn’t cover you when you are driving a car that is owned by someone in your household, which is defined as someone who lives with you and is related by blood, marriage, or adoption. It does not cover you if the car you are driving is not technically yours but you use it regularly. Non owner SR22 car insurance is for the occasional use of other people’s cars.

The trouble with non owner SR22 car insurance is that it often costs more than regular SR22 car insurance, since the car insurance company cannot use the type of car you are driving to determine what your car insurance rates will be.
